SPD E-Gas Roadster Breaks Record World at Bonneville running Accel/DFI

After chasing the land speed record for the E-Gas Roadster since 2004,  SPD along with Autotrend EFI broke the record last week at Bonneville! The previous record was 202.9 and we pushed the record up to 204.6 The "E" class requires the engine size to be no larger than 260 CID. We are running a 258 inch Buick V6. controlled by an Accel/DFI engine management system, by Autotrend EFI.

Buick Indy V6 Bonneville Motor


Buick Indy V6 Accel/DFI Engine Management. 258 CID, 555 HP
This motor was built by Brad Peters, Freight Train Racing
This is the Bonneville motor for SPD's E-Gas Roadster
Check out a couple dyno pulls to 8700rpm. Horse power was limited due to too small of throttle body housings. We're we're changing to larger throttle valves and we'll be back on the dyno.... stay tuned!

The continuation Shelby Cobra is finished. This Cobra has a Roush 511 cid big block FE motor.
Like all of the Roush EFI packages, the drivability left a lot to be desired. The car was extremely difficult to start, idled very poorly and was running very rich. Autotrend EFI completely re-wrote the calibration (tune) and the car is a whole different car. Starting is great, the motor runs clean and crisp and idle quality and drivability is excellent. The engine management system is an Accel/DFI

EFI 97s Are In Full Production!!!




We are now in full production of the EFI 97  These are our EFI throttle bodies designed to look like a Stromberg 97 ! These units are CNC machined, feature a single oval butterfly for increased CFM. We tested these units against an original Stromberg 97 and the results were incredible. We flow tested them on a Super Flow SF 600 flow bench. the Strombergs flowed 203 cfm and our EFI 97 flowed 344 cfm !!!! They feature roller bearing shafts, internal clock springs so there is no need for external return springs.

The EFI 97 was flow tested on a SuperFlow SF-600 flow bench. We did a comparative flow test between an original Stromberg 97 and our unit flowing them at today’s industry standard of 28 inches of water… The results were impressive.

1969 Camaro Convertible with all aluminum 454 ZL1 Ramjet

This 1969 Camaro Convertible was built by Marquez Design and is owned by Harold and Sherry Bollenbacher.

Autotrend EFI did the complete chassis wiring, Accel/DFI Engine Management System, EFI harness and calibration/tuning work. This is an all aluminum 454 ZL1 Ramjet, featuring Autotrend's 502 Ramjet Fuel Rail and Billet Plug Wire Looms.

This beautiful Corvette is owned by John Miller in Houston Texas, designed by Scott Bliss and built by Lakeside Rods and Rides. EFI For Any Engine

Any gasoline-powered engine can be converted to run on Electronic Fuel Injection or EFI. An engine has no idea how it is being fueled. As long as the proper air/fuel ratios and ignition timing requirements are available, the engine will run and in most cases the same engine will perform better and be more efficient when converted to EFI. The advantages are numerous. Great cold start, better fuel economy, better performance as well as altitude compensation.

For this reason, it has become increasingly popular to convert the older work horse engines from the past to Electronic Fuel Injection. Ford's 427, 428 and Cleveland engines, Chrysler's 440 and Hemi head engines and of course the Chevrolet small blocks and big blocks are among the popular engines to convert over to EFI.

With an Electronic Fuel Injection system, an Engine Control Unit or ECU controls the A/F ratios and ignition timing curves. All aspects of engine performance: cold start, idle speed control, transient fueling, A/F ratios, timing curves and electronic spark control are calibrated into the system and precisely controlled through a feed back process. On a properly calibrated feed back system, the ECU constantly gathers information from various sensors processes it and then tunes and adjusts the engine to meet changing conditions. Another advantage of EFI is the Engine Control Unit can control non-engine functions such as cooling fan operation and transmission functions.

When converting a carbureted engine to EFI, there are certain aspects of the engine that need to be addressed in order for the system to work properly. Camshaft profiles that work well with a carbureted engine, may not work as well with the EFI system. This is because of the difference in intake manifold design between a carburetor manifold and some EFI manifolds. A common EFI conversion is to take the components from the Chevrolet Tuned Port Injection equipped Corvettes and Camaros and put them on older small block Chevrolet engines that were previously carbureted. Unless the camshaft is changed to match the Tuned Port intake, the result is not always favorable. In order to realize gains in performance, efficiency and drivability, it is important to make sure when using a particular EFI system that the camshaft match that particular system. The same theory holds true when developing an EFI intake manifold for an engine that was never available from the factory with fuel injection. If the conversion involves converting an existing carburetor intake manifold over to EFI then a camshaft change may not be needed. If a dramatically different intake manifold design is to be used, a cam change becomes necessary.

Careful planning from the beginning of the conversion is necessary in achieving a successful out come. Whether the engine is in a Streetrod, muscle car, truck, boat or designed to work in a stationary piece of equipment, a system can be developed to optimize that engine's performance.
